Do you find the fashion photography from Maurie & Eve’s Spring 2008 collection as enchanting as I do? The soft sunlight makes these garments all the more beautiful. For all of you Australians, you’ll be pleased to know that Maurie and Eve is actually based in Sydney and can be found in most major cities. My stockist list has already been printed and ready to take with me on my trip back home later this year. I like to save and only purchase truly beautiful things — I think these may make the list…

It’s time for another reader suggestion: I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. Thanks to e-mails from readers BreAnne and Erin, I rented this movie just so that I could see Jessica Biel’s apartment. Erin even has plans to redecorate her own home based on this movie, so hopefully we can help her out.

If 20-something lawyers in Chicago live in lofts just like Alex’s (Jessica Biel), then hand over the LSAT study guides. The open floor plan, designed by production designer, Perry Andelin Blake, and set designer, Gary Fettis, is loosely segmented into sleeping, living, dressing, and work areas. My favorite? Definitely the gorgeous Colette bed in natural alabaster linen that is fit for a princess. Let’s top it with a large floral print duvet such as the flowering quince, musette, or serafina. Accent the bed with multiple layers of pillows, including Thomas Paul’s flora orange silk twill or notNeutral’s triton pillow in blue.

Beside the bed is a mirrored nightstand similar to the mimi antiqued mirror chest. The harriet lamp will be perfect for some late night reading. Display all of your treasured statues, photos, and other keepsakes on several lack wall shelves.

My next favorite is the open garment rack in the dressing area. Now you would have to make sure you have a killer wardrobe since your clothes are out on display all of the time. Tidiness is also a must. But if you need to shove a few things away before guests come over, a beautiful pewter green painted armoire may be the perfect spot. Slip your heels on while sitting on the jasper chair upholstered in dorien ice fabric. And while we’re talking about seating, either the antwerp armchair or the lily pink slipper chair would work well in the living room.

Finally, the artwork on the icy blue walls and exposed brick definitely deserves some attention. A sepia-toned print of Babe Ruth hangs in the entryway, opposite an autumn leaves painting like escape.

Requests are answered — I couldn’t believe it when Jessie told me that she had lined up Jen Everett. Secretly I have been wanting to know more about prop styling for our Bandelle jewelry. Jen’s portfolio is definitely worth a look…and perhaps a stare…

Talk about an entertaining runway show! I must admit that I wasn’t too excited when I heard about the Project Runway challenge: create an over-the-top drag queen outfit. But when Chris March from Season 4 walked out (I just loved him) and the queens blew kisses, curtsied, and skipped down the runway I was secretly smiling.

Since I don’t have as much of an appreciation for costume design, it was hard for me to form a strong opinion about the outfits. So I’m leaving the discussion to you. Terri’s samurai-inspired garment did tickle my fancy though, because her long sleeves were very dramatic when Acid Betty raised her arms at the end of the runway. Joe’s winning pink cat suit for Varla Jean Merman was boring for me but she was grinning from ear-to-ear, which is probably the most important thing.

Just like the WWE challenge on Season 4, this drag queens challenge weeded out the bad designers. Daniel impressed me at the beginning of the season with his cup dress, but ever since then he has been a little ‘blah’, don’t you think? So no wonder Daniel’s flamenco dress for Annida Greenkard was the loser this week — pretty but not drag enough.

Besides the models on the runway, two other things made me smile. The first was Tim Gunn’s obvious discomfort at critiquing these garments. This challenge seemed a little over his head. Thank goodness he had Chris March to help him because he was lost for words in the work room. The drag queen names also made me grin — Annida Greenkard, Farrah Moans, Sharon Needles, Hedda Lettuce, and Acid Betty were my favorites.

What did you think? Do you have an opinion on costume design and if you had a drag name, what would it be?

We watched a mini marathon of Tori & Dean Home Sweet Hollywood tonight. What an endearing couple! They just moved into a newly renovated house in the midst of giving birth to their baby girl, Stella. I was curious to see what they would do with their Spanish style home since their Chateau La Rue makeover from the previous season was shockingly impressive…

The tufted chairs and headboards look like they have come straight out of the set of Mad Men. While this is not quite my taste, I appreciate the fact that they have a strong sense of style. The McDermotts enlisted the help of their friend, Suzanne, to spruce up the place. I couldn’t quite tell if she is a professional interior designer or just a devoted friend. Regardless, Suzanne is hilarious.
I love it when designers go the extra mile to showcase their latest work in unusual ways. Sally Scott has done just that with her 08 - 09 Autumn & Winter collection by featuring short online videos of her designs “in action.” Such a simple concept and I don’t know what made me want to watch all of them. They only show this young model drinking coffee, riding a bike through a park, and flipping through art reference books but I guess we can all get a feel for how the clothes are worn. And we can also see that the clothes aren’t pinned from behind, which annoys me when I find a gorgeous shapely dress on a mannequin but realize that they pinned it in all of the right places. Instead the dress ends up looking like a sack on me.

Have a great week, everyone.

Oh, this was a good one! This week on Project Runway the designers were challenged by Brooke Shields to create an outfit for her character, Wendy Healy, on Lipstick Jungle. As an avid Lipstick Jungle fan, this challenge was definitely up my alley because I watch the show for the sets (remember Victory Ford’s apartment?) and fashion just as much as I do for the drama. Hint to Lifetime — Lindsay Price would be a fabulous guest judge next season.

Let’s talk about the favorites first. I adored Keith and Kenley’s chocolate petal skirt because it was feminine and provided enough texture for Wendy Healy’s look. Thank goodness Keith won the pattern debate (what was Kenley thinking?) but I may have even liked the first print that they skimmed over at Mood a little more. Regardless, the whole outfit was gorgeous. Jerell and Stella’s ensemble came in a close second and it’s the first time that I have approved of Stella’s “letha” — used sparingly and in mustard color. As a girl with a similar body type to Brooke Shields, I would have definitely appreciated the cinched waist of Jerell’s outfit but not Terri’s ultra-tight pants.

As soon as Kelli’s model walked down the runway with the bare midriff I knew she was going to be the loser this week. Perhaps if she had thought more about what was beneath the jacket then Blayne’s bermuda shorts may have been pinned on the losing dress form. His outfit was more H&M than Barney’s (where you would imagine a high powered Parador Pictures executive to shop), but I thought it was cute and wearable for everyday.

Overall, I loved this challenge and I will be forever envious of Brooke Shields’s shiny brown hair. What did you think of the winners and losers this week?
