I finally had a chance to sit with a cup of tea and flip through the latest issue of Elle Decor last night just before going to sleep. When reading the article about Alexandra Wentworth’s Georgetown home, I noticed her very unusual cream and lilac rug. Wentworth cleverly used fabric dye to create the starburst pattern on the rug herself. She certainly made it her own!

Until this method is tested out on a rug from the dollar store (too nervous to try it out on anything more expensive), you will not be seeing a DIY tutorial here. Instead we’ll look at a few rugs by fashion designers who have overlapped into home decor.

I enjoy seeing the parallels between the designers’ garments and the other products they branch out into later in their careers. Vivienne Westwood’s Squiggle rug reminds me of a tunic dress from her Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

Or how about Matthew Williamson’s Peacock Dark rug and his poppy shirt with tulip skirt ensemble from the Spring 2009 collection?

Marni’s Overleaf rug shared a little bit of fame last year when it appeared in Carrie’s blue apartment in the Sex & The City movie. I actually prefer this yellow version, which reminds me of Marni’s rounded clutch above.

And lastly we’ll turn to one of the masters of pattern mixing — Diane von Furstenberg. Her tribal rug is so striking, just like her halter dress from her 2008 Cruise collection.

Wow. That lilac rug is amazing. I would definitely purchase it for my home if I could, and if it was affordable.
All these others are great too..I can see them in an eclectic space.

I have thought about dyeing my rugs. Just plain white Ikea rugs, so not a huge lose if I mess up. I am still a little to nervous to do it, on top of which, I want to use pink dye, and I think I have pushed my husbands limits on pink. He would freak! haha. I might do it anyway, someday. I love the idea, will def. post about it if I do.
