After a brief hiatus, Double Take is back. And this time we are focusing on Milly’s (Mandy Moore) apartment in Because I Said So. The story of a meddling mother, played by Diane Keaton, in her daughter’s romantic life is the cure all for Friday night boredom or a girly night at home. Mandy Moore’s boho-chic apartment is the envy of many, including readers Brenna Yeary, Catherine Allaway, & Christina Thornell. Thanks for the suggestion!

Production designer, Shana Seymour, and set designer, Maggie Martin, created a worldly and eclectic atmosphere by using many imported pieces and jewel tones throughout the home. To recreate the look, let’s start with the chester sofa upholstered in a plum velvet. Top this tufted beauty with a selection of Indian sari pillows and multi-striped pillows from World Market. For accent tables and a tv stand, try the alston chest, this green lacquer trunk, or even the Ming Chow nightstand.
For inexpensive lighting to a complete knockout pair of lamps, I suggest the iridescent bulb string lights and the peacock murano glass lamps from Swank Lighting. As you make your way toward the kitchen, line your hallway with some ventilated lockers. These used lockers come in just about any color and style. When you’re in the kitchen, fill your shelves with colorful crockery including these butter yellow dishes from Sur La Table.

I thought the chalkboard fridge idea was genius. After a little Googling, I discovered Daily Danny’s step-by-step instructions on how to transform your old fridge door to a chalkboard — perfect for writing little messages to your loved one in the mornings. This sure beats my magnetized notepad!

As I watched this movie with a hungry stomach, it was hard not to notice the gorgeous wedding and birthday cakes made by Leigh Grode and Joan Spitler, otherwise known as the Cake Divas. These two cake designers hail from Culver City in California and were commissioned to create all of the elaborate cakes seen in the movie.

And finally, did anyone else like Mandy Moore’s polka dot dress? Although I could not find an exact match, this Robbie Bee brown cap-sleeve dress with polka-dots is quite similar and could be accessorized with any belt, including the ivory square knot belt or the lemon double knuckle belt. Costume designer Shay Cunliffe wanted to give this story a distinctive quality so you will notice polka dots throughout the clothing, sets, and even on the cakes.

Wow - what a fabulous idea - I love these double takes - very clever. I also loved this movie + the polka dots - especially the littel red ones on the tulle of Diane Keation’s wedding dress and I loved how they rearraged their apartments all the time - so much great furniture in such great spaces and I didn’t notice that fridge - so cool.

Have you watched the Holiday? It stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Kate’s character has the cutest house and they both wear the BEST clothes! I think it would be an amazing movie to do a double take for. And I love your double takes. I was looking for screenshots of Because I said so and found this website. Now it is on my favorites list.
Thanks for all your hard work, J

Hi Kylie,
I stumbled upon your blog when searching for a dress Jessica Biel wears in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. The last scene, at the wedding, Jessica sports a beautiful cocktail dress with lace and I was wondering if you knew how to find the designer or a fullbody picture. Like I said, I stumbled upon your blog but I absolutely love it and you have gained a new reader
I hope you can help me out because it is driving me up the wall not finding it. warm greetings from a cold Sweden
