There is something about eating at the chef’s table in a restaurant that makes you feel special and “in the know.” Although it can be a little hot back there it is enjoyable to be so close to where the magic happens. But I’m wondering if you could create the same chef’s table atmosphere by setting up a casual and industrial type of dining area in your own home. I saw this kitchen and dining room combination in Living Etc. that reminds me of a chef’s table.

The adjoining dining room has a table made out of reclaimed wooden planks that are set on a black metal base. I have always been attracted to rustic and industrial pairings. In fact, I saw a similar table in Austin over the weekend at Four Hands but did not have a camera to show you all. The wood was lacking in the worn out character of reclaimed planks but the overall piece was very close to my taste. If you find a vintage table top, would be be terribly hard to have a metal base made?

I found this Rand table over at Room and Board. In my opinion, without the nicks, dents, and scratches, it does not quite have the same character. However, this would be a good substitute if your tastes lean more toward the modern lines.

I’ve never been “in the know” enough to actually eat at a chef’s table, but I’ve seen plenty and wished I were cool enough
Love the wood plank table!

I have only been back there a couple of times and that was through my old job. But the perks are over now

What a stunning interior! And I agree that the charm of a big table like that is in the nicks and scratches of reclaimed wood. I can absolutely see one being constructed with a new metal base and an older top. My in-laws recently re-did their floors using wood reclaimed from an old barn, and the effect is magical!

See that means you should stop by my blog more often (LOL). I am glad you liked my office/glam room. I worked hard on it. I am almost done. Now I just need a rug! And I may or may not cover the mirrored walls. They are stuck so.
