Paddington living

September 29th, 2008 · 17 Comments

I’m back from my little trip to Australia. My goodness, how time flies! I slept for almost 12 hours straight last night while trying to get over my jet lag. The past 10 days were about good quality time with family and I honestly couldn’t have had a better time. And now I have so much to share with you…

My sister and brother-in-law are moving back to Sydney after living in Chicago for 9 years then taking an 18-month trip around the world. So where will they end up living? That’s the big question. I started to think about where I would move to if I had the opportunity (one day…maybe…). Paddington would be my #1 choice as long as we had millions of dollars in our bank account. Yep, these tiny historic terrace houses are pricey but they are in a prime location to the city and within walking distance to boutiques, small artists’ galleries, and cafes. Here are a few of my favorite houses in the area that are currently for sale:

Outdoor living in Paddington

Fancy a cup of tea on the patio? Grab your favorite book and join me outside while we read in the shade for hours.

This is the perfect house to entertain. With its wide open floor plan and doors that open up the entire back wall of the house, you could play host to many cocktail parties. I can already hear the smooth jazz playing in the background.

Tobacco Warehouse Paddington

Lofts are even available in this old tobacco warehouse. Notice the detail of the living room ceiling and larger square footage.

Quintessential terrace house Paddington

This quintessential Paddington terrace house is my favorite of all. The charcoal facade is stunning with is black wrought iron trim. Each room has so much personality. I would imagine that any interior designer would love to get their hands on this home.

Or how about living next to your own boutique? What a dream that would be to run your boutique during the day but pop over to your house for a cup of coffee during your breaks. I think the shop belongs to the terrace house to the left.

I didn’t have time to browse the Paddington markets on Saturday but will definitely stop by on my trip at the end of the year. Artists and designers sell their wares and I’ve always come home with something, even if its small.

Do you have a dream area in your city? If you have a blog, please post some pictures and link back here, if you like. It would be fun for all of us to see :)

I’ll be back with more photos from my trip tomorrow. Stay tuned…
