Finally Bravo made me happy.
This week on Project Runway the designers were challenged by Apolo Ohno to create an opening ceremony outfit for the summer Olympics. This was by far the most interesting runway show so far this season. Lots of non-Olympic looks that would be terrible for the athletes but it was still fun to watch. Plus for once I didn’t get too annoyed by any of the designers. Perhaps because I’ve accepted Blayne’s tanorama, Suede’s imaginary friend, and Stella’s obsession with ‘letha.’ They’ll be OUT soon enough…

Korto & Terri — you got it! Korto’s winning all-white three piece outfit would look great on camera. I enjoyed the mandarin collar and combination of fabrics (leather and linen) but I’m not too sure the high waisted pant would flatter all of the athletes. However the overall look was unexpected, fashion-forward, and America would definitely have a presence in the arena.
Terri’s Americana approach is more versatile and could easily be translated into a look for the male athletes. So many prints and patterns but they all seemed to work together. And like all of Terri’s designs so far, I would wear it in a heartbeat. In my opinion, Leanne could have made the top 3 with her layered collar and cropped shorts. But Joe, no skorts please.

It was definitely time for Jennifer to go. Although many of the outfits did not resemble the Olympics, Jennifer’s matronly garment probably woudn’t have even made it to the spectator stands. Her versatility is lacking and I haven’t wanted to wear anything she has made so far. Poor Jennifer. At least this photo of Jerrel’s model might cheer you up. Can you hear her asking, “what is this guy thinking?” His outfit made me giggle but in a good way.
Did any of the other outfits make you giggle?

i think it’s the fact that last season was so good, and that it always takes me a while to warm up to any new personality, that I too have been a little underwhelmed by this season. but these looks were definitely more interesting. top three = fabulous. yey, korto!
p.s. you totally made me giggle out loud when you said ‘letha’. my sister and i randomly say that throughout the day, and laugh completely goofy! xo

Daniel’s dress was horrible! I agree Jennifer didn’t seem to be capable of moving outside her element (nor does Stella), but at least her skirt would have allowed for some athletic movement! Korto’s design was smashing and I’m so happy she took the honors.

I also really liked Leanne’s! Loved the high neck and the simple outfit. My husband made me laugh when he kept asking, “Could you really see a girl shoptput athlete wearing that?!”

i definitely got a laugh out of jerrell’s outfit - just the thought of Olympic athletes parading around in that hat! but i do think he has talent and a creative vision, so glad he stayed. and i agree that leanne’s should have been in the top instead of the skorts with the usa on the side - not one of my faves!

Any one of the top designs should have been the real “opening ceremony” outfit!! There was nothing new or interesting about what our athletes were made to wear. I thought the US had one of the worst outfits which is a shame when there could have been so many other options!!

Beautiful! I was watching the seremony, and wondering who on earth makes all those awful boring designs?! Norwegians looked like they were on their way to a funeral, and those dresses the Finnish girls wore looked straight out of Margareth Tatchers wardrobe! Korto and Terri please offer your services to the Norwegian athlete society’s wardrobe department!!

I was wondering the same thing.. Where was her design. The outfits worn by the women were designed by Ralph Lauren, WHAT HAPPENED????

Ok…really confused where was the outfit in the opening ceremonies? Did not see it? Did they lie to the winner about the athletes wearing ther outfit..how rude!

The challenge was to design a possible outfit for the opening ceremony, not the actual outfit because the USA Olympic team had already committed to Ralph Lauren. It would have been MUCH cooler if that were the case.
