SPOILER ALERT: Come back after you’ve watched the episode…it’s a good one!
For the second episode of Season 5, our Project Runwayers were challenged to create a green cocktail dress for their clients — the models. Not only did they get creative input, but the models were sent off to Mood to purchase the eco-friendly fabric. Argh! Unfortunately a lot of the designers were forced to create super skimpy eco-fied dresses in terrible colors but luckily there were a few winners in the bunch.
BLUEFLY.com, please stock Terri’s dress now. I’ll buy it. To use the most common phrase in fashion according to Michael Kors, it’s chic, it has a ruffled collar, and it’s navy (well, pretty close to it). If Terri designed that dress for me then I would be kissing her on the runway. Now why wasn’t she in the Top 3? Did anyone else like it?
Instead Bluefly will be stocking Suede’s dress. I thought it was going to be a disaster but it actually looked cute walking down the runway with its weaved pattern and tulle underskirt. Not a dress I would wear but I can see why Natalie Portman (isn’t she tiny?) loved his innovative approach. Watch out, Carrie Bradshaw might be walking around your neighborhood very soon.
Kenley made me proud. We (group of friends who share the PR obsession) worried the puffy collar was a little too reminiscent of Christian’s style from last season but it sure was striking. The butter yellow and black combination was a clear winner.

So I guess I put my foot in my mouth last week when I announced Wesley as “the one to watch.” Poor Wesley, what happened? His dress was hideous, tight and crinkled for a fabric that probably shouldn’t fall that way. Perhaps if he had anything but chocolate silk to work with then we’d see more of his John Varvatos red suede shoes. Unfortunately Wesley deserved to be the eco-fy loser.

Before we finish up, how adorable is Natalie Portman? Her commentary was accurate in my opinion and she’s like a little jewel. I loved her green sweetheart neck dress just as much as Heidi’s this week. Bravo hasn’t listened to me yet about posting the source of her dresses. Perhaps if we make enough noise here we’ll get their attention.
UPDATE: You can pre-order Suede’s dress for $280 by sending an e-mail to nana.brewhammond@bluefly.com. Nana will get your measurements and size info. Looks like they are only making 150 dresses. Read about it here.
So my fellow Project Runway fans, who were your favorites? Would you prefer to see another dress on Bluefly? Did you like Kelli’s dress? Are you just as annoyed with Suede as I am or is Blayne still getting under your skin? I would love to hear your opinion!

hey kylie! i wondered the same thing about Terri’s dress…it is strikingly beautiful. love the black + blue and that neck line is amazing. when she wasn’t asked to stay i was so surprised – thought she would’ve definitely been in the top three over that gold lace-up asymmetrical number. i did like the winner this time around [although i personally wouldn't wear it] and was happy to see kenley in the top – hers was a knock-out too! i’m an even bigger fan of natalie portman after seeing her on the show last night. she’s so kind, always trying to find the positive in everyone’s design. ok, think i’ve gone on long enough! alston

THANK you — i loved Terri’s dress!! And our Kenley is at it again (yey!). I do feel bad for Wesley though; I really think he had more for us to see, but that dress was pretty bad. I just really want Stella to go home — her look is just not runway. It’s too outdated altogether. And I LOVE Natalie Portman; she was such a role model for me when I was growing up. She’s such a delightful, yet brainy person. (You know she went to Harvard to study psychology?)

The gold lace-up dress? I thought it looked cheap. I commend her because it did reflect her style but it just wasn’t pretty at all. And I completely agree with you about Natalie Portman. Did you read the article about her in Elle magazine a couple of months ago? She seems so real, intelligent, and a non-Hollywood type.

I didn’t like Suedes dress at all!!! When I saw it on the runway I was just like OH NO! I was really surprised he won! It’s not a dress that many people can wear or pull off! I loved Blayne’s prink and black dress! NOW THAT I would paid $$ for! And Terri’s dress was lovely too!!!
As for my Korto I was really disappointed! She could have really pushed the envelope with the inside out seams! And when they made the model turn around I was like OH NO!!!!! Soooo hopefully she brings her self back up next time!

Kenley’s and Terri’s dresses were my favorite. I liked that they weren’t super short like everyone else’s, they fit beautifully, and were indeed, tres chic.

I’m really liking Kenley and Kelli so far (and still hating Blaaaaaaayne). I loved Kenley’s own outfit (the one she was wearing herself) as well.
Also I usually don’t notice the models, but Stella’s model (Kendall, I think) is really striking.

Kim – I love Kenley’s look! She definitely has a style about her, which I think is important for designers because then we can get a feel for their point of view. And I did notice how much prettier the models are this year too.
Alia – I was cheering for Korto too and had high hopes for her when I saw the color of her fabric. But I have a feeling she’ll probably be around for a while anyway.

I haven’t watched it yet but read your post anyway! I’ll come back tonight for more comments after I’ve viewed it.

I’ve watched this episode twice and it’s still too early for me to predict a fave. Natalie Portman was a perfect guest judge, and Terri and Kenley’s designs were on the top of my list.
Blayne definitely needs to find a new suffix to substitute for ‘licious!’
12 bandelle : Jul 28, 2008 at 11:29 am
‘licious’ is just no where near as good as ‘fierce’…oh, how I loved Christian!

OMG>>>! Just found your blog & it is bloglicious… :0) Sorry, couldn’t resist. My daughter & I have been mocking “crazy” all week. I hate to say this but Christian & his “fierce” made me just as crazy. What’s with everybody having to have a catch phrase? I long for the days when personality was all you needed to distinguish yourself & people were inspired by a full vocabulary.
That said, what about “I love Lethaaa” Lethaaa, Lethaaa, Lethaaa! I can’t remember her name, we just call her “Leather Tuscadaro” Anybody remember her? Fonzie’s girlfriend!
How great are Kenley & Kelly! L O V E them!!!!
So thrilled to have found your blog. Beautiful

Jen, your comments made me laugh out loud. I’m not really a fan of anyone’s personality yet except maybe Kenley. Also Terri and Korto don’t seem to be caught up in the drama. But otherwise everyone else so far are a little blah. Bravo is focusing too much on the “licious” boy, “lethaa” woman, and “Suede likes Suede.” Thanks for stopping by my blog. Looking forward to hearing your comments on future episodes.
