Girly weekend

June 30th, 2008 · 12 Comments

Since my husband went on a three-day golf trip, it was the perfect opportunity to have a girly weekend. And what did that mean? Catching up with my girlfriends, meeting the lovely Paloma from La Dolce Vita (more below), shopping around the Rice Village area, sleeping in, and having full control over the remote (I squeezed in as many design shows and sappy movies as possible). Plus I had a great excuse to head on over to Anthropologie…

The Cocktail by Kat Macleod

As you may recall, Kat Macleod is one of my favorite mixed media artists and thanks to Holly Becker’s article over at Real Simple, I found out that The Cocktail book just became available at Anthropologie. I must say that I’ve been converted to a used book store lover, but I made an exception. And just like Holly, I bought this little recipe book purely for the illustrations because I love the way Kat Macleod combines patterned paper, bits of lace, tiny beads, and sometimes chocolate wrappers into collages of the sassiest women. The book pages are worth framing and now that I’ve sampled Jane Rocca’s (author) Chi-Chi drink, I highly recommend it for your own girly weekends.

Tiny BoxwoodsPSThe highlight of the weekend was meeting Paloma of La Dolce Vita. We have been blogging friends for a little while now and decided to meet at a relatively new cafe in Houston called Tiny Boxwood’s (Paloma beautifully described our afternoon here). She is as lovely as you can imagine and not to mention absolutely stunning! I’m very thankful for this blogging community because it’s a chance to “meet” so many people with such similar interests. For example, it was obvious that we shared the same taste as Paloma and I couldn’t stop oohing and ahhing over the color palette and design of this cafe. If you haven’t read Paloma’s blog yet, please take a little trip over there because I’m sure you will enjoy her elegance and eloquence. I really appreciate her impeccable sense of style and feel like we just began a very long friendship. Thanks for a lovely afternoon, Paloma!
