Tag - Am I Really It?

May 28th, 2008 · 14 Comments

Kylie & Jon SarleyDear Jude just tagged me and I’m happy to oblige. I have no doubt that you will enjoy the honesty and sincerity of her heart and words on her blog, Randomly Run4istRun, just as much as I do.

Before I get started with my answers, I must admit that I always thought it was “Tag, You’re IN”. So that means I was actually saying the wrong thing ALL of the those years playing tag as a kid. Can any Australians back me up here? Is that what we used to say? Well, anyway…

What was I doing 10 years ago:

Ten years is a LONG time. I was busy being a senior in high school, or Year 12 as we call it, down in Sydney, Australia. Ahhh, the memories. I was almost on my way to college in America and figured it would be just like 90210 — the college years :) My mum took all of the recruiting trips for me so I actually had no idea what it was like until my very first day at Rice University (here in Houston). My goodness, I have been here for almost ten years!

5 things on my to-do list today:

Get the dishwasher fixed. Keep your fingers crossed because the plumber should be here any minute. We have piles of dishes now all over the kitchen counter that are desperate for some suds, not to mention the smelliness that’s building up from the stagnant water. Yuck.

Pick up a paintbrush. Nah, just kidding. My friends and family will laugh because I have several unfinished paintings around the house. Painting is on my to do list every day.

Fulfill orders. Jewelry making can be quite relaxing, especially with some good Sinatra.

Actually I was reading Decor Fellow this morning and just loved his “Cocktails Al Fresco” music. And then I visited one of my bead suppliers who ended up giving me a GREAT playlist. So I think iTunes will appear on my credit card statement today.

Call my big sis. She should have arrived back in Sydney now after her year-long trip around the world with her husband. Not a bad life, huh?

Snacks I enjoy:

These are so full of calories but I just LOVE jalapeno cheddar Cheetos. It shows that I have been in Texas way too long. We first tried them when my husband and I did a little impromptu viewing marathon of “The Office,” greasy orange fingers and all. Oh no, now no one is going to try them! Message to Cheetos — please don’t take them off the market…EVER…

Things I would do if I was a billionaire:

See my family. It sounds so simple but all I want to do is be able to hop on a plane whenever the homesickness gets too much. We decided to settle in Houston because it makes the most sense for us right now — careers, some family (Jon’s brother, sister-in-law, and little niece are in Austin), and the relatively low cost of living. We’re working on a grand plan where we’ll be able to split the year between Australia and America. But being a billionaire could make that happen instantaneously. And of course there are plenty of other things on the list (including art schools for underprivileged kids — art just doesn’t seem to be encouraged enough) but, selfishly, seeing my family at a moment’s notice would be a dream.

Places I have lived:

Sydney through my childhood, Houston for college, Perugia, Italy for a semester studying abroad (the best time I’ve ever had — took painting, drawing, and photography classes) and back in Houston again.

People I want to know more about:

I have been part of the blogging community for only a few months now and there are so many people who I would love to get to know. I’ve noticed that several of you have been tagged recently, which explains why you are not on the list. And my apologies to these fabulous women below if you have already been tagged:

Kylie from All Things Lovely: Talented stationery designer
Paloma from La Dolce Vita: Eloquent and elegant
Roseline from This Is Glamorous: Love her aesthetic
Jessie from Zesty Perspective: Boatloads of fresh content
Marichelle from Heart Handmade: Discovered her beautiful blog recently

Awww, thanks for tagging me! I feel very spesh. And you’re right, it’s Tag You’re In…. I’m sure of it. Almost 98%!! Because we were always ‘In’, we were never ‘It’…. I think. Isn’t it awful I can’t remember back that far, gosh, I’m old!

Ha, I’ll take it. And did we used to call it “tip”? Maybe we were playing an entirely different game :) Loved your tag answers.

great answers, especially about art — I completely agree. The art department in schools, I feel, is always the last priority, and it’s sooo important. Thanks for your sweet tag on me (and I’m pretty sure it’s “in” ;) …anyway, I should have something by tomorrow!

I said “Tag you’re in” when playing chasing games in Australia too. If you do finish one of those paintings that you’re working on then I’d love to see it :-).

Angela, that’s just so sweet of you. I bet you are excited about going home next week since I think you understand the homesickness too. Hope you are well and have a safe journey.
