The story about Brown

May 5th, 2008 · 4 Comments

What do you think this jug was used for? Milk? Wine? The only facts we know are that it was found in Holland and there is a small inscription on the top of the jug with the numbers, “2 1/”. There must be a story behind my new jug, just like everything else at Brown.
Brown store in Houston

Last Thursday we feasted our eyes on all of the lovely antiques at Brown. Jill Brown has the most exquisite taste, with her store featuring a collection of furnishings, chandeliers, table lamps, copper pots, and mirrors from all over the world. If you love antiques and are in the Houston area, I recommend taking a Saturday afternoon trip to her store.

Purchasing antiques can be a little overwhelming for me. I’ve often felt that I needed to know more about these period pieces to feel worthy of purchasing them. But I’ve decided to start slowly with accessories around the house.

While I’m figuring out the history behind my jug, it will begin its next journey in the Sarley household sitting on top of our wine cabinet.

I love antiques too, but I agree — I’d at least like to know what they mean! But, then again, the mystery is kind of nice in itself.

Gorgeous post! I love antiques, and half the fun is learning about the pieces! But like you, I do not feel quite ready for the BIG antiques splurge …so until then I go for smaller pieces of furniture and accessories that is not tooo expensive :-)
