The Matchbox Project
If a little decorated matchbox was perched on the seat next to you in the train, would you be curious enough to open it? Just a little peek wouldn’t hurt, right? A new phenonemon known as The Matchbox Project was started a year ago where thoughtfully decorated matchboxes were placed in unexpected spots all over Sydney — just ready for a random stranger to discover. And now these little surprises have even reached the top of the Eiffel Tower.

The creator behind The Matchbox Project explains that it’s about “randomness, silly things in unexpected places, curiosity, chance, procrastination (on my part) and ultimately, an attempt to make you smile.” Even though the creator would love to know who actually finds these little treasures, the possibility of these matchboxes bringing unexpected happiness to a random stranger is just as important. And wouldn’t you be happy if you discovered a little box of miniature playing cards, a rainy day songlist, or crayons with a message saying, “Today I hope you see a rainbow. If not, draw your own?”

Thanks to Angela and Richard for telling us about this clever act of kindness, creativity, and inspiration. Read more about The Matchbox Project here. It may get your creative juices flowing…
