I was in a particularly creative mood today (hence my very late post), possibly because I was inspired by the mixed media pieces of Australian Kat Macleod. Every now and then I come across a site that makes my eyes open so wide. I added Kat Macleod’s work to my bookmarks earlier this year to revisit later and I’m glad I did just that early this morning.

Why am I so drawn to her work? Mixed media pieces generally interest me the most because I feel like it’s an extension of sculpture — but on paper. Macleod has created a three-dimensional look by using different fabrics and papers. And with the combination of drawing and watercolor painting, the pieces come to life. I would love to know more about Kat Macleod and of course to see her studio space. Looks like Oh Joy might be able to shed some more light on her. Also make sure you check out Macleod’s portfolio at the Jacky Winter Group. But for now, we can bask in the beauty and intrigue of a selection of her pieces.
Now I’m craving to see more of her work. We may have to open the pages of Real Simple because the editors seemed to be equally enthralled by this artist.

These are really lovely. The green one is my fav. I love collages, and I find them pretty hard to do myself, as it takes a real good eye to create a balance with all the materials. Lovely!
