The artist in me just loved this challenge. This week on Project Runway the designers were taken to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to seek out inspiration from the Greek and Roman Sculpture courtyard, the European Painting wing, or the Temple of Dendur. Our Runwayers then had to design a look that was inspired by a specific piece. Bravo producers — you definitely redeemed yourselves this round.

Christian, the Art of Fashion challenge winner, really captured the essence of the 17th Century Spanish portrait by Bartolome Esteban Murillo. There is no doubt that this guy has innate talent. I loved the androgynous way that he styled his model, even right up to the fedora. I wouldn’t say that I’m a true girly-girl so that’s why the designs of Christian and Jillian appeal to me each week. Jillian’s inspiration came from a 15th Century narrative battle painting entitled, “Master of the Argonauts.” Both designs were reminiscent of a military look, with a little more drama shown in Christian’s voluminous organza shirt. Jillian’s fitted black jacket with gold piping was definitely more tamed and wearable. Thank goodness my two favorites are off to Bryant Park.

I can see why the judges found it tough to award third place this week. I adored Chris’s luxurious duchesse satin fabric, especially the color combination. Mr. Roberto Cavalli was blown away by this gown and even though it was a little similar to his avant-garde design, the seasoned judges were a bit too harsh on him. Rami’s Grecian-inspired dress was something that I would definitely wear although predictable. Nina Garcia continues to criticize Rami for not taking risks. Yes, I’m tired of seeing another draped garment but maybe he is actually taking a risk by sticking to instincts and staying true to himself. Luckily, they are both “in” for now.

Sweet, sweet, Sweet P. We’ll miss her for the fact that she is as sweet as her name. Sweet P was the Art of Fashion loser but a winner of my heart. I wish you, or someone else, had chosen the Temple of Dendur at the Met as your inspiration. I can only imagine the possibilities…
The reunion episodes never do too much for me so we’ll see you back here in two weeks for on the way to Bryant Park talk. In the meantime, if anyone can source Heidi’s black dress (or any of her dresses) on this episode, then please let us know. One last thing, did you hear that Victoria Beckham is the judge on the final episode of Project Runway Season 4?

I have to say, I was excited about last night episodes. I wanted to sew too after seeing what their challenge was! Christian and Jillian are my favs! I really want Jillian to take the crown though. Heidi was right, she’s so quiet then BAM she wows us with unbelievable stuff.
As for Rami, I really am tired of the draping. And it’s fine if that’s his thing, but I still want to see something more that makes me go WOW! But I have never done that when I have seen his clothes. We’ll see what happens between him and Chris! Can’t wait!! I tried to get tickets to see the shows at fashion week….but I didn’t:( I was so upset!
