Organic lines of White Forest Pottery

Nature is beauty. Beauty is nature. And that’s exactly what the work of Nancy Bauch from White Forest Pottery reflects. I don’t need to say another word…

White Forest Pottery

I first heard about Nancy through Bluelines (Blueprint magazine – we’ll miss you!) and was completely mesmerized by the organic quality of the gold weave bowl. That’s exactly what nature does to me — it casts a spell that makes me fall deeper and deeper into a dreamlike state. Nancy lives and breathes nature by not only imitating the forms, but working directly with earth. Layers of clay or waxed linen coils are moulded into these one-of-a-kind shapes, where imperfections are part of the beauty. This is referred to as wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that the artist embraces. Nature with all its imperfections becomes perfect.

Nested rose bowls from White Forest Pottery

We’re a little too late this year but the nested rose bowls would be an incredible Valentine’s gift. Forget a bunch of roses and instead send someone a set of bowls inspired by the opening of a white fragile rose. Just by looking at it you can almost feel the artist’s hands sculpting and working on each bowl layer by layer.

To use nature as our inspiration, take a look at the photography of Jenny Landers in her shop on Etsy. I bet that it will start to free your mind too.
