Every now and then I come across designer work spaces that seem so inspiring. I think it’s great to get a behind the scenes look at the lives of our fellow talented designers and artists out there. After finding all of those original gift tags on Etsy in Amy Butler prints, I browsed her site and fell in love. Amy Butler is mostly known for her vintage fabric, handbag sewing patterns, and graphic stationery. She started her Art of the Midwest studio in 1992 with her husband, two cats, and $1,200. Now her products can be found all over the world, appealing to the consumers who want something a little different from the norm.
This is truly an inspiration wall (right). I love how she has kept a neutral color palette for the furniture and flooring. Her fabrics and patterns then become the art and the focus of the entire room.

Her designs do not follow the current trends, rather they come from her intimate point of view. Amy is a frequent flea market shopper and finds inspiration from her family and travels. Thanks to her close-knit team, Amy is able to create a wide range of the most beautiful products. Here is a sampling of her work that comes out of that gorgeous studio:

Out of all of her fabric collections, I have selected my favorite line: Full Bloom in the Belle Collection. The beautiful pink and red hues appeal to the girly side of me while the aqua and soft greens balance the palette. I also like Pink Dahlia in her new Midwest Modern line, maybe because yellow is a hot color this spring.

Thankfully Amy Butler has an online shop but her products are featured in many stores across the country. Until I learn how to sew I’m going to stick with the stationery. Otherwise we’ll see if I can talk a friend into making one of these bags for me.

I love Amy Butler’s work. I don’t sew but I am often inspired by images in her book, “Amy Butler’s Midwest Modern”. She has glimpses of her home and studio.
(love your blog, by the way. I’m new to it but have already subscribed!)

I’ll have to check out her book. Did you see her home in Blueprint magazine? It looks absolutely incredible! Thanks for visiting the blog and for sharing your inspiration with us on your blog.
