Who says you have to carry around a bulky black laptop bag that you find at Best Buy or Circuit City. I’m not going to anymore. Thankfully my custom jewelry making profession allows me to be somewhat mobile, especially if I’m writing a post on this blog or updating the site. So I lug around a bulky and somewhat masculine looking briefcase to coffeehouses around town. The bag almost feels heavier than the actual laptop.

So, I’m treating myself to one of these laptop bags…

The top two on the left are from designer, Janine King. She has a very extensive line of bags, from sleeves that fit the super slim and ultra light MacBook Air to larger bags for widescreen laptops. Check out designs from Cotton Purr and Rebelle for a slightly different take on the messenger bag with an adjustable strap or a Friday-coffee-meeting inspired laptop envelope. These laptop sleeves, bags, and envelopes come with all of the important pockets for your keys, pens, cell phone, iPod, and of course your favorite lipstick.

Since my tastes lean more towards the conservative side, my choice might end up being the laptop tote from Moop. It’s appropriately named “the Fraulein Tote” — I can just imagine seeing this on the shoulder of a stylish German woman as she whisks through the bustling train station with that quiet air of confidence. The version I like is made out of dark sage canvas and lined with charcoal grey cordura. It’s equipped with two strong snaps that can be opened quickly when you’re in a rush.

Now if you are super ambitious, you can make a laptop bag yourself. There are a lot of great patterns to choose from like the messenger bag from Amy Butler, Laura Ashley’s business bag, or a tech tote from Simplicity.

You may have been lucky enough to have scored a MacBook Air, but for those of us who don’t have one then we can enjoy the new French singer sensation, Yael Naim, from the commercial. Isn’t she sweet?
