Project Runway: Levi’s Denim Disappointment

January 24th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Was anyone else a little disappointed in this challenge? Our Project Runway crew had to design an iconic denim look that captured the spirit of the 501 legacy. Talk about uninspiring. I certainly wasn’t sitting at the edge of my seat this week. Maybe it’s because denim is just denim. Don’t get me wrong, I live in my jeans. But part of the appeal of Project Runway is being exposed to designs that you couldn’t normally find in stores.

Project Runway: The

Dress after dress. At least weeping Ricky had a good reason to cry this week. He was the Levi’s winner and may have even deserved it for the only reason that Ricky’s garment fit perfectly. A strapless tube dress was all it was but thank goodness they were tears of joy for a change.

My favorite this week, if I have to have one, was actually Rami’s fashion forward dress. He stretched his creativity by using zippers as piping. I enjoyed the pleating on the bottom of the dress plus the high-collared neck. Totally chic and a different look for denim, but it didn’t quite capture the spirit of Levi’s. In fact, all of the designs failed besides Christian’s iconic trucker look.

Project Runway: Chris and Victory'a denim disasters

If there wasn’t much drama on the runway then at least the Project Runwayers provided us a little entertainment in the workroom. Don’t you just love Chris? He’s a person that I would want to invite out for a cocktail with the girls, especially if he keeps up his “give him (Christian) a bottle and send him to bed” comments. I don’t know how long Chris will stick around if he sends out Erin Brockovich dresses down the runway.

Victorya was this week’s loser but we’re not too sad. Her lackluster attitude about the challenge was evident in her denim trench. But we’ll see Victorya again some day. She has that quiet and maybe a little snooty confidence that will convince women that her designs are actually what they want to wear. I can see myself falling into that trap.

I hope next week’s challenge is a little more inspiring…
