It’s hard not to notice all of the yellow. I went shopping over the weekend and in the front of almost every store was a section of beautiful spring yellow garments. Perfect for lifting my mood. As we saw in the 2008 Pantone color forecast report, freesia is one of the spring season’s hottest colors. [...]

Fresh wall art
January 28th, 2008 · 6 Comments
I’ve been looking for ideas to freshen up the walls in my studio space. When I am making jewelry all day, I want to be inspired by what is around me. I think my walls need a bit of a lift. So the search begins…
Changing the color is definitely an option (and a must!), perhaps [...]

Project Runway: Levi’s Denim Disappointment
January 24th, 2008 · 5 Comments
Dress after dress. Was anyone else a little disappointed in this challenge? Our Project Runway crew had to design an iconic denim look that captured the spirit of the 501 legacy. Talk about uninspiring. I certainly wasn’t sitting at the edge of my seat this week. Maybe it’s because denim is just denim. Don’t get me wrong, I live in my jeans. But part of the appeal of Project Runway is being exposed to designs that you couldn’t normally find in stores.
Sleeping with a good conscience

I would find it hard to believe if you didn’t agree with me that there are few things better than climbing into bed and covering yourself in a mountain of blankets, especially if it’s cold and rainy outside. A few minutes of reading will easily get me into what I dearly call the zone. Perhaps [...]

Tea for two
January 20th, 2008 · 6 Comments
There are many things to love about the States, but they brewed away a lovely tradition in the Boston Harbor two hundred years ago. There is something utterly civil about relaxing each day, if only for fifteen minutes, with a sweet biscuit and a hot cup of tea. Each sip can reach your furthest extremities [...]

Project Runway: Avant-garde challenge
January 16th, 2008 · 6 Comments
Kit, what happened?
Now here’s a designer that I expected to see more from. I earmarked Kit in the first episode because I thought by the end of the season she would “wow” us. But for this Project Runway avant-garde challenge, Kit was the loser. Our Runwayers had to create an over the top conceptual avant-garde [...]
Re-discovering Brett Whiteley
January 14th, 2008 · 8 Comments
It’s rare to find an artist that you truly love. Brett Whiteley, one of Australia’s greatest artists of the 20th century, is my recent re-discovery. It wasn’t until a year ago when I spent a quiet day on my own at one of Sydney’s finest art galleries that I fully appreciated his work. A few [...]
Harlow Madden on Board
January 12th, 2008 · 7 Comments
It sounds like Nicole Richie and Joel Madden had a baby girl yesterday and named her Harlow Winter Kate Madden.
There seem to be a lot of new babies around me. Well, I should say expectant mothers. One of the first questions we always want to ask is whether the parents have decided on a baby name. [...]

Vintage aprons that make you want to cook
January 11th, 2008 · 18 Comments
I do like to cook but I’ve never done it in style. It wasn’t until I came across these adorable vintage aprons at Anthropologie yesterday that it made me want to entertain every day. Here are some of my favorites: Lucky ladybugs ($38), Yellow butterflies ($38), Camellia ($38).
Kitchen aprons aren’t just for avoiding those messy [...]

Project Runway: Prom Queens
January 10th, 2008 · 10 Comments
Designing a dress for the prom, “one of the most important days in a woman’s life” (Heidi Klum), was the task this week and there were a few nightmares in the Parsons studio.
Clearly I must need glasses because there is no way that weeping Ricky should not have been booted off Project Runway last night. My [...]
